Building things while exploring AI.

i80 is named after Interstate 80: one road, many destinations. Exploring AI is my road. Along it, I build apps and AI agents to find out what AI makes possible. Every project here started as an idea, and some are ready for you to use.

NowExploring where AI agents go next: personal knowledge agents, and letting AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude work directly with apps, data, and tools (a new standard called MCP). I believe every future app will need this, so people can use it through their AI assistant.

Projects

Each one has its own look and its own home. All of them came out of the same road.

i80 Agent.

i80 Agent is a platform for building AI assistants around your own knowledge. Give an agent your stories, documents, or expertise, and let people ask questions in a conversation. It can serve as a personal cooking companion, a hotel guest assistant, or a guide to a business’s products and services, with answers grounded in the information you provide.

Trovel

Trovel is a travel app for planning trips, traveling together, and keeping the memories. Organize your itinerary, share plans with your travel companions, and collect moments along the way. It brings the trip into one shared place, available on the web and iPhone, with MCP support so you can work with your trips through an AI assistant.

First working version built with AI in 62 hours. Making it a production app, including the iPhone app, took much longer.

Pickleball Together

Pickleball Together is a cooperative version of pickleball focused on longer rallies, shared enjoyment, and fewer risky shots. Players work together to keep the ball in play rather than end the point with a winner. The website explains the rules and includes an interactive game simulator to help you understand the format before taking it onto the court.

Website, including the game simulator, built with AI over a few evenings.

At Dynasign · My day job

QRSign is digital signage with a QR code on every screen, so people can scan it and take the content with them on their phone. Start with a screen, or just a printed QR code, and manage both from one place. It’s a new product from Dynasign, the company I co-founded, which has provided software for running digital signs to large companies for years. We’re using AI to help power QRSign’s marketing and support, and I’m coding it with AI and developing MCP support so AI assistants can work with it.

How it started

One question that a very smart AI could not answer.

"How did Alex cook sea bass with miso?""I don't have access to Alex's personal cooking history."

That was ChatGPT in January 2023. It knew everything about cooking, and nothing about my cooking. So I set out to build an agent that knows my stories.

The cooking agent led to a hotel assistant, then to i80agent, and building those taught me to build with AI itself. The apps here came from that.
